Born in Israel in 1939, Jacob Chayat was educated at Kibbutv Dafna An Autodidact in 1951.
Chayat studied graphics at the Technological Institute in Tel Aviv in 1959. He initiated and founded the artists association in Bat-Yam in 1981. Chayat served as First Chairman of the Association in Bet-Yam in 1981 through 1984. He was the director of the Ben-Ari Museum, Bat-Yam from 1983 through 1987.
Chayat directs the art design and publishing studio and the Chayat Gallery in Tel-Aviv, his works are in private collections in Israel, and abroad. He is a member of the Israel Association of Painters and Sculptors.
