Avi Ben SimhonFrom the Kibbutz to Cubist

Avi Ben Simhon was born in 1947 in Fez, Morocco. In 1948, after the establishment of the modern State of Israel, his family moved to Israel. Avi spent his childhood is Jerusalem, and after completing his army service, he, along with friends, founded Kibbutz Eyal. He began his studies at the Avni Art Institute in 1986, and then spent three years at the Kallisher Institute, where he studied contemporary art. In addition to spending time working on his paintings, he has also taught art and graphic painting. His art is quite unique, and is highly influenced by Fauvist and Cubist painters of the 19th century, and surrealistic painters Dali and Magritte. His work is filled with dramatic images, often using spiral like shapes and powerful, bright colors. Avi Ben Simhon's pieces have been exhibited in Israel, France, Canada and the USA and can be found in many private collections.
